Chandelier Exit (Indie Port)

Chandelier Exit is a volatility-based trailing stop indicator designed to help traders identify trend direction, manage exits, and protect profits using market volatility. This version is a carefully engineered Indie port of the original Chandelier Exit by Alex Orekhov (everget), adapted for the TakeProfit platform.

The indicator dynamically trails price using ATR (Average True Range), adjusting stop levels as volatility expands or contracts. It is commonly used for trend following, stop-loss placement, and position management in both discretionary and systematic trading.

How the Indicator Works

  • The indicator calculates ATR-based trailing stops above or below price.
  • In an uptrend, the Long Stop trails price upward and never decreases.
  • In a downtrend, the Short Stop trails price downward and never increases.
  • A trend switch occurs when price closes beyond the opposite stop level.
  • Optional Buy / Sell labels mark confirmed direction changes.

This logic allows traders to stay aligned with the dominant trend while automatically adapting to changing volatility.

Key Features

  • ATR-based trailing stop logic
  • Automatic trend direction detection
  • Buy / Sell signals on trend reversals
  • Optional trend state highlighting
  • Close-price or High/Low extremum selection
  • Clean, chart-friendly visualization suitable for live trading

Visual Behavior & Port Notes

  • This Indie implementation preserves the core algorithmic logic of the original Chandelier Exit.
  • Stop levels are calculated continuously, which may result in smoother stop lines and fewer visual gaps compared to some TradingView implementations.
  • Minor visual differences do not affect signal logic or trend detection.

Common Use Cases

  • Trailing stop-loss placement
  • Trend following strategies
  • Trade exit optimization
  • Trend state confirmation
  • Risk management overlays

The indicator works well on all markets (crypto, forex, stocks, indices) and across all timeframes.
