Hello! This is my first indicator on TradeProfit. I created it to break each candle's volume into estimated buy volume and sell volume, so you can see who is in control of a bar instead of just how much traded.
How it works
Standard volume shows one bar of total activity. This indicator splits that total into two parts using where the candle closed within its high-low range:
- Close near the high: most of the volume is counted as buying.
- Close near the low: most of the volume is counted as selling.
- Close in the middle: the volume is split roughly 50/50.
Buy volume is drawn as columns above the zero line and sell volume as columns below it, so you can compare them at a glance. If a candle has no range (high equals low), the volume is split evenly.
What the colors mean
Each side has a "winning" color and a "losing" color:
- Green (buy volume, buyers win): the candle closed in the upper half of its range, so buyers dominated the bar.
- Red (sell volume, sellers win): the candle closed in the lower half of its range, so sellers dominated the bar.
- White (the losing side): the side that lost the bar is shown in white. In a bullish bar, the sell volume below zero is white. In a bearish bar, the buy volume above zero is white.
The colored column is always the side in control, and the white column is the side that was overpowered. A big green column with a small white column below it shows strong, one-sided buying. Two similar-sized columns suggest a contested bar.
Customizing the colors
All four colors can be changed in the indicator settings:
- Buy Volume (buyers win)
- Buy Volume (sellers win)
- Sell Volume (sellers win)
- Sell Volume (buyers win)
If you use a white or very light chart background, the white columns will be hard to see. Change the two "losing" colors to something visible, like gray or a lighter shade of green and red.
Things to keep in mind
- This is an estimate based on OHLCV candle data, not real order flow or tick-level buy/sell data. It shows probable pressure, not exact executed buys and sells.
- It works on any time frame (TF), but the split is more meaningful on candles with a decent range (higher TF).
- Use it alongside your own analysis, such as price structure, support and resistance, and trend. It is not a standalone signal and not financial advice.
Feedback and suggestions are very welcome!
